A Joyful Celebration of Seasonal Music & Theatre coming to Alton Mill

The Alton Mill will be presenting A Joyful Celebration of Seasonal Music & Theatre Dec. 13.

The performance will be showcasing the Urban Flute Ensemble at 1 p.m., followed by Dickens’ Christmas Carol, presented by the Humber River Shakespeare Company at 3.

The sounds of The Urban Flute Ensemble, featuring Jamie Thompson on flute and Lucas Tensen on cello, will come alive in a program which will include an eclectic selection of repertoire for flute and cello, as well as diverse selections from Robert Aitken, J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Handel and Marin Marais, as well as a short improvisation for flute and cello. The program will also include an introduction and demonstration of various world instruments, including historic European and Celtic flutes, Shakuhachi, North American traditional flute, Kora and Didjerdoo.

Tickets for the Urban Flute Ensemble are $15 each and are available in advance at the Alton Mill Gallery, or at the door. Seating is limited, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

The Humber River Shakespeare Company will perform their popular staged reading of Dickens’ holiday classic, Christmas Carol, for audiences of all ages at 3 in the Alton Mill’s Millrace Room. Watch as professional actors in Victorian costume tell this classic Christmas tale that brings out the Christmas spirit in everyone. This is a free event, but donations will be kindly accepted.

Come for the day, and finish up your holiday shopping at the Mill, where you’ll find a unique selection of one-ofa kind original art, fine crafts, jewelry, furniture and Fair Trade products. Explore the open studios and discover art in a wide range of mediums from the 33 resident artists. Choose from paintings, photography, jewelry, sculpture, pottery and an extensive selection of fine crafts. Enjoy lunch at the Shaw’s Creek Cafe before the show.

A Joyful Celebration of Seasonal Music & Theatre is part of the Alton Mill’s ‘Twas the Art Before Christmas holiday event that runs through until Jan. 3.
