OPP has winter driving tips
      Although the area has been experiencing unseasonably warm temperatures in recent weeks, Caledon OPP wants drivers rest assured that winter is definitely on its way. Now is the time for them to prepare themselves and their vehicles for snowy and slippery roads. Police remind the public of some basic tips to prepare for the inevitable winter driving experience that awaits everyone.

Council endorses location for proposed north hill supermarket
      It took several hours of sometimes heated discussion, but Caledon councillors, in a split vote, finally approved the northeast corner of Highway 50 and Columbia Way. Not everyone was sold on the idea, and there were even some questions as to whether such a facility is needed or appropriate for that area of the village.

CRUISERS CONTRIBUTE TO VICTIM SERVICES
     The Caledon Cruisers Car Club chooses a different charity every year to which to direct funds collected at its weekly meetings, and Caledon — Dufferin Victim Services are the recipients this year. Club Vice- President Ken McKay and President John Gilroy were on hand Friday to present a cheque for $1,500 to Victim Services Executive Director Doreen Young.

Broadway Farm’s Market starts its the 2009 holiday season
      Broadway Farm’s Market hosted an enjoyable evening for invited guests and customers last Wednesday (Nov. 4). The special guest for the evening was Caledon Community Services (CCS) who was presented with a $5,000 cheque from Anne Livingston on behalf of Broadway Farms. Accepting the donation was Kim D’Erie, fund-raiser and development specialist with CCS.

     Bolton’s Prudential Select’s sales representatives and brokers showed their appreciation to their valued customers Saturday at Empire Theatres by treating them to their third annual Film Fest. It was an overwhelming success with more than 650 customers enjoying, three new-release, block-buster movies; New Moon, Planet 51 and 2012, along with popcorn and drinks.

School bus driver named STC Hero for life-saving rescue
      Brampton resident Don Perry, a Parkview Transit/Student Transportation of Canada (STC) school bus driver, was named an STC Hero at the company’s Honour Awards Program for his role in rescuing a woman after a car accident in 2004.

      Caledon OPP reports they were called out early last Monday (Nov. 16) to two businesses in the Bolton industrial park after there were reports of the thefts of two trucks and two trailers.

Rubber ducks are symbolic of new way of looking at pollution, speaker says
      Rubber ducks can symbolize many things, including the latest trends in pollution. That’s the main point of a book entitled Slow Death by Rubber Duck. The book’s coauthor Rick Smith was in the Alton area recently, addressing a meeting co-hosted by Green T Environmental Awareness and Credit Valley Conservation (CVC).

Caledon is taking part in Pedigree Adoption Drive program
      Mayor Marolyn Morrison, and other dignitaries of Caledon, along with representatives of the Caledon Animal Shelter, recently received a cheque for $2,500 from Pedigree. The animal shelter will be joining the 2009 Pedigree Adoption Drive for the second year in a row.

      Caledon OPP is requesting the assistance of the public in identifying possible suspects in separate break and enters that occurred in the Bolton area during the evening of Nov. 18.

CALEDON TRAIL CLEANED BY STUDENTS AND OPP OFFICER
     For several years the Caledon Trail Way in Caledon East has been used by students walking to and from Robert F Hall Catholic Secondary School. Although convenient, one of the challenges has been the on-going problem of littering and vandalism on the trail.

Nick Ferri and family are Peel Region’s farmers of the year
      The Peel Federation of Agriculture has named the Ferri’s Peel’s Farm Family of the year. The presentation was made Saturday night at the annual Farm Family of the Year Banquet in Caledon East. Nick Ferri said he found out about the honour about a month ago.
