McGuinty Liberals back down and allow more HST exemptions

Dufferin — Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones is maintaining that intense public pressure has made the McGuinty Liberals back down on certain items their Harmonized Sales Tax

HST) will affect.

The McGuinty government announced last week that newspapers and meals costing less than $4 will now be exempt from the HST when it is scheduled

come into effect Canada Day 2010. HST is a blending of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Provincial Sales Tax (PST)

a single 13 per cent sales tax.

“It is obvious that the McGuinty Liberals are bowing to the intense public scrutiny they have been under since announcing the HST,” said Jones.

Families across Ontario have been signing petitions opposed to the HST. It is their hard work and calls for change that have made this exemption happen.”

Each time the government grants an exemption,

is further proof that HST itself is poor policy that was never thought through, Jones observed.

“Plain and simple, this

the wrong tax at the wrong time,” she declared.

If you are opposed to this McGuinty Liberal’s sales tax grab, I encourage you

go to my Web site and sign my petition opposing the HST. It is because of the many signatures we have received that McGuinty is backing down on this ill-advised, illtimed tax grab on Ontario families. The Progressive Conservatives refuse to give up.”

The petition opposing HST can be found at www.sylviajonesmpp.ca under the “Petitions” tab. The petition is also available for signing at the constituency offices in both Bolton and Orangeville.

Why is there no need for public consultations? Why wait for the elections to pass judgement? Mr. McGuinty talks about opportunities for conversation. Let's have a public poll and pass judgment, right now. PLEASE VOTE HERE... http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/461838 ...and pass the link to other Ontario residents.
