McGuinty Liberals back down and allow more HST exemptions
      Dufferin — Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones is maintaining that intense public pressure has made the McGuinty Liberals back down on certain items their Harmonized Sales Tax HST) will affect. Caledon yard waste collection will be ending this month
      Caledon residents are advised that their yard waste collection services are ending for 2009. Yard waste collection for residents in Alton, Belfountain, Caledon village, Cheltenham, Inglewood, Mayfield West, Palgrave Estates, Palgrave (east of Highway 50), Tamarack and Terra Cotta ends this week on regularly scheduled collection days.

McGuinty Liberals have no plan to create jobs, Jones charges
      Dufferin — Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones announced recently she’s been wondering where the 146,000 new jobs are that the McGuinty Liberal promised in their 2009 Budget. Since the budget announcement, Ontario has lost another 32,000 jobs, according to a statement issued by Jones’ office.

A Christmas Carol will be on tour
     Church Directory Humber River Shakespeare is returning with an expanded tour of its annual staged reading of the Dickens holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. The tour will be stopping at Alton Mill at 1402 Queen St. in Alton Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. It will be part of Directory an afternoon of music and theatre at the mill’s Twas the Art Before Christmas event.

Province will lower income taxes while they bring in the HST
      Many people in Ontario are viewing plans to to combine provincial and federal sales taxes into a harmonized sales tax (HST) as a money grab. But the Provincial government’s tax reform plan also includes lowering income taxes.

Headwaters hospital addresses $2.2 million deficit
      Headwaters Health Care Centre announced to staff, physicians and volunteers last month that the hospital is facing a potential $2.2 million funding shortfall for the 2010/2011 fiscal year. If the Province goes ahead with a zero funding increase for hospitals, Headwaters will need to make some significant changes to address the deficit.

Parent information night for extended French immersion
      Grade 6 students and their parents, who are interested in the extended French program, are invited to attend an information night at Allan Drive Middle School Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. This program affords students the opportunity to learn to read, write, and speak in French. The school, the program, registration process and new registration deadlines will be discussed at the session.

Peel EcoFair will continue to grow
      The Peel EcoFair has been continually evolving since its inception in 2003, and that growth is expect to continue. The 2009 edition of EcoFair took place in May at Erindale Park in Mississauga, and Peel Regional councillors recently received a report on the event, as well as the plans for the 2010 edition.

Brampton man dies in hospital after Caledon collision
      A 61-year-old Brampton man died of his injuries after Nov. 8 two-vehicle collision in the area of King Street and Chinguacousy Road. Caledon OPP reports the accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m., when a silver Honda and a brown Jaguar collided. The driver of the Jaguar and his passenger were treated for minor injuries at Brampton Civic Hospital.

Peel Children’s Aid facing a $2.1 million deficit
      The Ministry of Children and Youth Services’ recent announcement of CASs 2009/2010 funding leaves Peel Children’s Aid $2.1 million short of the necessary money to provide services to vulnerable children in Peel Region. This funding allocation is $1.4 million less than they received last year, according to a news release issued last week by Peel CAS.

Jones questions about additional burden to Children’s Aid Societies
      Dufferin — Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones recently asked Children and Youth Services Minister Laurel Broten to table a report setting out the additional staffing requirements to enforce the Minister’s Child Pornography Reporting Act bill.
