Watch for wildlife on roads
Part of what contributes to the quality of life we all enjoy in Caledon is the abundance of nature and wonderful scenery.
We are fortunate that we enjoy the best of both worlds: services and amenities of urban living and the beauty of nature and wide open space. However, along with this gift of nature, comes a level of responsibility.
Recently, I received a letter from a Grade 7 student inquiring about more Wildlife Crossing signs. She also expressed her concern about wildlife safety at specific locations, such as Innis Lake Road, south of Old Church; Old Church Road, east of Gore Road to Humber Station; and Humber Station Road, south of Old Church Road. She said she is worried about the dangers to wildlife such as possums, foxes and turtles, and the increasing number of animals getting killed by traffic.
Perhaps it is time to learn from this young girl’s message. As drivers, we have a responsibility to be aware and cautious — not just on certain roads, but on all roads.
Good for this young student for speaking up and taking the time to write. Good for all of us who take the time to drive carefully and watch out, not only for our fellow drivers and residents, but for the animals as well.
