Bolton's Cornelius lights out with six K's against Orillia Majors in win

The Brewers' strength this season has been their steady pitching.

Bolton sported that same consistency in a 7-3, road victory over the Orillia Majors at JD Tudhope Memorial Park in Orillia last Wednesday (June 25).

Scattering eight hits on three runs, Bolton starting pitcher Dave Cornelius struck out six Majors' batters with one walk over his complete-game, seven inning victory.

"Dave has been lights out all season," explained Brewers Head Coach/player (infielder) Mike Wallace. "I'm glad to get more innings out of him."

Cornelius (1-0) has struck out 12 in 11 and a third innings this season, with a 2.50 earned run average (ERA).

With the Brewers' pitching holding them in the game, the Bolton hitters continued to have good atbats. They have crushed North Dufferin Baseball League (NDBL) pitching by scoring 34 runs in their last four games (all wins).

Early on, Bolton bats boomed for three runs in the first inning. With runs batted in (RBI) by outfielder Nate Robinson and designated hitter Nigel Cutler on singles, and outfielder Chris Mamoliti on a sacrifice fly, the Brewers got to Orillia starter Justin Schilling.

After there was a Majors' run in the third, Bolton broke it wide open in the fourth with a two-run double by outfielder Brett Bond, scoring Mamoliti and second baseman Ryan Smith. Wallace (playing short) then drove in Bond with a single.

Orillia added one more run in the fourth and one in the seventh, while Bolton got another on a Mamoliti ground out to score Cutler in the top of the seventh.

Now with a 10-1 record (second in the Senior East Division) the Brewers face a tough test by squaring off against the two NDBL division leaders.

After a home game tonight (Thursday) against the near .500 Clearview Orioles (7-6) at North Hill Park (7:30 p.m.), the Brewers are to take on the two firstplace teams on the road. First they will face the undefeated Creemore Braves (11-0 in the Senior West Division) at Gowan Memorial Park in Creemore Saturday at 2 p.m. Bolton then plays a makeup game against the Aurora Jays (10-2-1) Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Lambert Wilson Park.
