Community groups ready to send Town a message

Our Caledon Our Choice (OCOC) and Caledon Countryside Alliance (CCA) will be stepping into Caledon Council Chambers July 8 to put forward their views on the growth issues that have dominated news in the Bolton area of late.

Joining the two area notfor profit organizations are a line-up of other groups that include Green Tea, Coalition of Concerned Citizens (the Rockfort Quarry group), Save the Oak Ridges Moraine (STORM) Coalition, Sierra Club Peel Region, Palgrave United Church, Ontario Smart Growth Network, and Sustainable Urban Development Association (SUDA).

Rob Mezzapelli, co-chair of OCOC, says it's time for the community to step up and show Town council that they are not in favour of reopening Caledon's growth numbers or expanding the urban boundaries.

"It's time for the silent majority to become the vocal majority," Mezzapelli said.

Each group has planned a short three-to-five minute delegation before council. Patti Foley, chair of Green Tea, a local environmental organization, hopes that Caledon residents will "show up in droves" to show support and send a strong message to council.

"There are serious impacts for our environment and infrastructure that would go hand-in-hand with premature residential development in Bolton/South Albion, for example," Foley commented. "The Town has been hearing a lot from progrowth groups; it's time to let them know the rest of us are out here."

The July 8 delegations are set to commence at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
