The questions about bolton's future are far from simple No matter how loud some people might cry out, no matter how organized they might be or no matter how much money they might have backing them, the issues of the future of Bolton, especially when it comes to growth and development, are not to be easily resolved. And we would further submit that those who argue there is a simple solution to the current controversies, be it lifting a development freeze, blindly keeping it in place or some other form of a quick-fix, are kidding themselves. There are some who argue that Bolton is in a state of stagnation. Interesting, when one reflects more than 100 people, most wearing big smiles, were gathered in the Bolton core Saturday morning for the official ground breaking for the new River's Edge condo development. From where we sit, there is activity. Granted it might not be what some people want. Some would think it's too much, while other would argue it's not enough. When it comes to matters of development, there is no way everyone is going to be completely pleased. The future of the village has been the topic of some very heated arguments in the community. It has resulting in the one group coming to prominence, namely the Coalition of Concerned Residents and Businesses in Bolton (CCRBB). But we now have another group, calling itself Our Caledon Our Choice, which is made up of Caledon business people and residents who are in support of the growth plans that council has approved. Admittedly, we don't have a lot of information on this group. What we know was gleaned from an e-mail received at the Citizen office Tuesday evening. We expect to gather more details in the time to come; we hope before this edition of the citizen goes to press. But what this shows is just another demonstration of the simple reality that we have all grown up with. No matter what the issue is, you will usually find groups of honest, dedicated, up-front and committed people on either side. That's what really makes these issues interesting, and difficult to solve. |
