Trillium grant leads to resurfaced tennis courts for Bolton Tennis Club The Bolton Tennis Club has newly resurfaced courts, thanks in part to a $73,500 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The rest of the cost for the work has been shared by the Town and club. "I am pleased the Bolton Tennis Club has received a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the resurfacing of the tennis courts," commented Dufferin - Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones. "For the past 20 years, the club has been active in Bolton and this investment will ensure our community can enjoy tennis for many more years." The site of the tennis club has had an involved history. The Edelweiss Complex was originally a business, consisting of several sports facilities, including four tennis courts. Fire in the late 1970s destroyed much of the facility, except for the courts. By the early '80s, a group of players had begun to compete at the courts at Humberview, and the Town approached interested players about carrying on with a club at Edelweiss. Formation of the Bolton Tennis Club soon followed. Tennex Systems completely rebuilt the courts in 1992, with the Town picking up two-thirds of the cost. A deck was also built at the time by a group of volunteers, and the clubhouse was added in 2003. A storage addition followed two years later. In 2004, the club entered into a stewardship arrangement with the Town for maintenance of the facility. Today, the club has about 300 members. It provides lessons for both children and adults, and assists with coaching the tennis teams at Humberview. |
