What makes for an effective Caledon?

It is a community that has actively-involved residents and a viable business community.

Every day, as I travel around or attend meetings, I see people helping people. We as a community cannot continue on our path of greatness without supporting each other in our time of need. We as a Town, or community of communities, need to be focused on what we can do to make Caledon better. Ask yourself why you choose to live in Caledon. I am sure that each of you will have somewhat of a different answer. But what separates Caledon from the surrounding communities is our sense of belonging to something. Part of the Caledon spirit, is our commitment to each other.

I have listened to you, the residents if Caledon, with regard to the population numbers for the next 20 years. Your wishes for controlled growth have been listened to, the Caledon business community is crying out for help. I need your help. In the past, I have suggested you shop locally. Now with the downturn in the Canadian economy the right thing to do is to support our local businesses. The majority of council is working together to promote and create a healthy environment for our business community.

Together we can overcome any obstacles. I need all of us to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

I have taken the famous quote of John F. Kennedy and rephrased it; "Ask not what Caledon can do for you, but what you can do for Caledon."

Let me assure you as residents of Caledon that this negativity that is currently happening will not get in the way of the Town and council doing the business of the municipality. We are focused on moving forward in all capacities within the Town.

Let us not forget that we are the Greenest Town in Ontario, we are the Safest Municipality in Canada (as per MacLean's Magazine), we are debt free, we have the third lowest tax rate in the GTA and we have a wonderful community of dedicated residents who participate fully in all aspects of the Town of Caledon

We live in the greatest town in Ontario and let's not forget it. Let's show our loyalty to our local businesses by banding together and spending our dollars in their stores to keep them in our community.
