Caledon resident will embark on a 30 km walk along the Caledon Trailway
By Anneleen Naudts

Jim Eberly
This Saturday (April 19), a Caledon resident will hike the Caledon Trailway in its entirety - a 30-kilometer trek from Terra Cotta to Palgrave.

Jim Eberly, the current chair of Citizens for a Clean Caledon, will take the walk to raise money for maintenance of the Trailway, as well as Weedgee Kidz, an initiative by the Caledon Countryside Alliance.

Weedgee Kidz is a youth-led program, in which volunteers help people in Caledon reduce their ecological footprint by offering alternatives to pesticides.

Eberly is no stranger to fund-raising walks. He raised $33,000 for cystic fibrosis research during his Trek to Timmins in 1994. In 1995, he participated in the Hike to Hamilton. All the while, Eberly wore his Mephisto walking shoes, and by now he's worn the pair along 600 charitable miles.

He hopes to set a new Guinness World Record for the most charitable miles walked in the same shoes.

Eberly's son Matthew, 30, who is training for the Mississauga marathon, will also be on the trail Saturday. He will run from Palgrave to Terra Cotta.

The walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Terra Cotta, and Eberly said he encourages anyone to join and "get an idea of what the trail is like."

A minimum pledge of $25 to participate is required. For more information, or to access the on-line pledge form, visit www.citizensforacleancaledon.org.
