Nominations now open for 2008 Dr. David Scott Award

Headwaters Health Care Centre has announced that nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 Dr. David Scott Award, which will be presented at the hospital's annual general meeting in June.

Nominations are open to individuals and organizations which have made a significant contribution to the overall health and well-being of the Dufferin-Caledon community.

The award is granted to an individual or organization that has made a positive impact on the quality of local health care through service to the community, leadership and/or advocacy of health care initiatives and services.

The award was created in 1999 in honour of Dr. David Scott's many years of dedicated service to his profession and the community. He is a graduate of medicine from the University of Toronto (1956), with a Fellowship in General Surgery (1962), and practiced general surgery in Orangeville from 1962 to 1997. He continues to provide surgical assistance at Headwaters. A life-long resident of Orangeville, Scott has provided outstanding leadership in health care in our community, and currently serves as a key member of the Greater Dufferin Area Physician Search Committee.

Previous recipients of the award include: Dr. Dirk Huyer in 2000 for his work with victims of sexual abuse; Erna Baniulis in 2001 for her work to improve long-term care in the community; Ronnie Inglis in 2002 for her leadership in emergency services, sexual assault and domestic violence, and organ donation; Dr. Faye Lindsey in 2003 for her work in physician recruitment; Headwaters Health Care Centre Auxiliaries (Orangeville and Shelburne sites) in 2004 for the outstanding contribution volunteers have made to the hospital for more than 50 years; John (Doc) Gillies in 2005 for his charitable work in the community, including overseeing the construction of the new medical clinic; Don Stewart in 2006 for his outstanding contribution to the hospital, and other community projects in Shelburne, many of which were in support of health care; and Dr. David Knox in 2007 for his outstanding contribution to improving access to care in the community by establishing an after-hours clinic.
