Timeless works of Louise Laroche on display

Brampton artist Louise Laroche is showcasing her monoprints and collages at the Art Gallery of Peel's Whitney Community Gallery until April 20.

Using multiple layers of crayoned plates, Laroche creates complex landscapes inspired by ancient cultures and nature, as well as the diverse media she manipulates.

"I like to think my work is evocative, bringing a sense of contemplation and increased awareness to the viewer," commented Laroche, whose works are displayed in many corporate, private and public collections. "Each image is different because of the many layers of crayons that create unexpected colour and textural changes. I like the interaction, the tension between juxtaposed fragments (that) form multiple spaces within my collages."

Laroche, who was born in Quebec, but currently resides in Brampton, started printmaking at Joshua Creek Studio in Oakville. She has participated in numerous regional juried and group shows and has received several awards while exhibiting in Quebec, New York and Toronto.

The Peel Heritage Complex (PHC) is operated by the Region of Peel and is located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. The Complex is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; weekends from noon to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission fees are $2.50 for adults; $1.50 for seniors; $1 for students; and $7 for families.

The PHC is made up of the Region of Peel Museum, the Art Gallery of Peel and the Region of Peel Archives. Together they collect, preserve and display a variety of materials related to Peel's heritage.
