ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Mayfield

Julie Sheppard

Sheppard, 15, was on the Nordic ski team that went to OFSAA Feb. 27 to 29. She came in eighth individually. She also placed second and third in distance and sprint team events respectively. The Grade 10 student also competed in field hockey, track and rowing at the school. In the community, she plays soccer for the Caledon Coyotes, as well as house league hockey in Inglewood. She lives with her parents Paul and Kira Sheppard in Cheltenham.

Humberview

Whitney Miller

Miller, 18, was the captain of the varsity girls' hockey team. The Huskies team lost in the quarter-finals in the Tier 1 ROPSSAA playoffs. The team also placed second in a tournament in Orangeville this past November. She is also the assistant captain of the Vaughan Flames Midget BB hockey team. The Grade 12 student also wakeboards and water skis during the summer. She lives in Bolton with her parents Dave and Pat Miller.

Robert F. Hall

Christine Babiak

Babiak, 16, is on the figure skating team at Hall this year. At the fourth annual Skate Canada Western Ontario High School Skating competition in Aylmer March 4, the team placed third out of about 30 schools. She competed in solo, interpretive and a team event with five elements. The next competition is at the Skate Canada Eastern Ontario Section Trillium Lakelands District High School Figure Skating Invitational Festival competition in Oshawa this week. The Grade 11 student skates out of Bolton and lives with her parents William and Elizabeth Babiak.
