Yard waste collection in Caledon will resume March 31 Peel Region's yard waste collection services will resume March 3 in Caledon's settlement areas and rural subdivisions. Yard waste will be collected every other week from April to November only. Residents can find their yard waste collection schedule on page 6 of the 2008/2009 Waste Management Guide, which was delivered to households that receive curbside waste collection during the week of March 17. Residents who did not receive a guide may obtain one by calling the Region at (905) 791-9499 or (905) 584-2216. Residents living in rural areas of Caledon are reminded that yard waste may no longer be set out for garbage collection. Residents may drop off dedicated loads of yard waste all year, free of charge, at the Caledon Composting Facility at the Caledon Community Recycling Centre. The Region asks residents to follow these steps when putting their yard waste at the curb for collection: • Place yard waste in labeled, open, rigid, reusable containers; bushel baskets; or paper yard waste bags. • Set out yard waste and recyclable material on the opposite side of the driveway from garbage, if possible. • Tie brush securely in bundles up to 1.2 metres (4 feet) in length and 76 centimetres (30 inches) in width, weighing no more than 20 kilograms (44 pounds). Additional guidelines: • Pumpkins, leaves, garden trimmings, plants, grass clippings, twigs, branches and lawn edgings (earth removed) can be set out as yard waste. Pumpkins can also be placed in your backyard composter or cut into pieces and placed in your green bin for organics recycling. • Corn stalks and remaining fruits and vegetables from your garden should be placed in backyard composters or set out as yard waste. • Shredded paper should be placed in your yard waste container or green bin. • Do not use plastic bags, cardboard boxes, green bins or blue boxes for yard waste. • Do not include stumps, soil, sod or stones with your yard waste. Stumps, soil, sod and stones can be taken to any of Peel's Community Recycling Centres (CRC) for disposal - drop-off fees apply. Refer to page 21 of your 2008/2009 Waste Management Guide for hours and the location of a CRC near you. Information is also available at www.peelregion.ca/wast |
