Art Gallery of Peel announces call for entry for its 35th annual Juried Show The Art Gallery of Peel has announced a Call for Entry for its 35th annual Juried Show, with submissions being accepted from April 14 until April 20 to compete for a $1,000 grand prize. One of the longest running shows of its type in Ontario, the Art Gallery of Peel's Juried Show was introduced in May 1974 and has exhibited emerging artists to the public ever since. "Peel's Juried Show attracts hundreds of artists and visitors each year, and hosts a diverse range of media, style and subject matter," commented Assistant Curator Judy Daley. "Our show is respected among the arts community in Ontario, and is always sure to challenge and entertain our audiences." Over the years, the Gallery has had the expertise of many distinguished jurors such as curators Joan Murray, Andrew Hunter and William Boyle, and artists Doris McCarthy, Tom La Pierre, Gordon Rayner and John Armstrong. This year's adjudicators are Anna Yuschuk, whose Passages exhibition is on display at the Gallery until April 13, and curator Ivan Jurakic of Cambridge Galleries. Artists can download an entry form at www.peelheritagecomplex. org; request a form by calling (905) 791-4055 ext. 6211; or pick up a form at the Peel Heritage Complex (PHC), located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. Works can be submitted during regular gallery hours: Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Thursday evenings, from 6 to 9 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays, from noon to 4:30 p.m. This year, the show is accepting one piece per artist with an entry fee of $12 for PHC members and $15 for non-members. All media are accepted, and each work must be original and completed within the last 24 months. Works accepted into the exhibition will be selected on April 21, and artists will be notified by April 24. Prizes will be awarded at the show's opening reception April 30, and selected pieces will be exhibited until June 15. Patrons of the gallery continue to support and honour regional and southern Ontario artists by generously donating volunteer time and money for the Juried Show. This year, the $1,000 prize for Best in Show has been donated by the John Cutruzzola Endowment Fund, and the $350 prize for Best Painting by Colony Ford-Lincoln of Brampton. PHC is operated by the Region of Peel and is located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. The Complex is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; weekends from noon to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $2.50 for adults; $1.50 for seniors; $1 for students; and $7 for families. PHC is made up of the Region of Peel Museum, the Art Gallery of Peel and the Region of Peel Archives. Together they collect, preserve and display a variety of materials related to Peel's heritage. |
