Churches and libraries should be on guard Since the start of the year, more than 50 churches and libraries have been the target of break-ins, according to Caledon OPP. These incidents have occurred throughout the Counties of Bruce, Grey, Huron, Wellington, Huronia West, Nottawasga and Dufferin. Minor amounts of cash have been stolen in most incidents. Those responsible are breaking in, causing more damage to property then the value of cash that they are actually stealing. The incidents are occurring when the buildings are empty, usually at night. Although there have been no similar incidents reported involving Caledon churches or libraries, OPP are callingfor a preventive approach by issuing a warning to the caretakers of such buildings in the area. They suggest that community members be aware of suspicious people or vehicles around their local churches or libraries and report such behaviour. Suspicious activity or incidents of a break and enter should be reported immediately to Caledon OPP at 1-888- 310-1122. Information can also be reported to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous and does not subscribe to call display. You will not testify in court and you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2000. |
