Cavalier atom AE Hawks are International Silverstick finalist The Cavalier atom AE Hawks carried the Caledon flag proudly to the International Silverstick Final in Niagara. The Hawks were charged up to face the best of their division in North America and opened the tournament with a 7 a.m. game against the fast-skating Chicago Vikings. The Hawks opened the scoring in the second period with a second goal in the third to win 2-0. The second game saw the Hawks face the Caledonia Thunder and they dominated the game from start to finish. With great offence, strong defence and stellar goaltending, the Hawks beat the Thunder 7-0. The next team up was the Metro Maple Leafs of Maryland. The American team took the lead in the first period, and that motivated the Hawks to come back with five goals; dominating the Maryland team in the 5-1 victory. The win left Caledon at the top of their division as they headed to the quarter-finals. One of the early tournament favorites was to be the Hawk's next victim. The Stouffville Clippers were no match for the Hawks. Caledon overpowered Stouffville from top to bottom and skated to a strong 5-1 victory. Stouffville went home and Caledon carried on to the semi-finals. The Skyland Kings of New Jersey were billed as one of the strongest teams in the tournament and they opened the scoring with strong skating. The Hawks would not be discouraged and the first period ended in a 1-1 tie. The second period was faster than the first, and the Hawks found the net for a 2-1 lead with 26 seconds left in the frame. The Hawks played hard and the goalies stood on their head as the game ended with a 2-1 victory. The Kings caught the bus back to Jersey. All was set for a northsouth final as the Hawks faced the Dallas Ice Jets. The Hawks got into a hole, but they fought hard to climb out with two goals in the second. The clock ran out of time before the Hawks ran out of steam and wDallas was the winner in this 7-3 match. Proudly representing Caledon, the team had a great time exchanging pins with teams from across North America and playing great hockey over the four day tournament.
