Mayfield Mavericks

The senior boys' hockey team (15-2-1) beat the previously undefeated Our Lady of Mount Carmel SS (15-0-3), 4-1, in the ROPSSAA Tier 1 finals at the Power Aid Centre in Brampton last Thursday (March 6).

Mavs goaltender Jared Lockhurst again played phenomenal in net, as his team earned a spot at OFSAA, which will be in Ottawa April 2-5.

The varsity girls' hockey team (7-1-2) didn't have the same fortune, as the lady Mavericks lost in their ROPSSAA Tier 1 finals matchup, 5-0 against Loyola SS (6-3-1) at Iceland Arena last Thursday in Mississauga.

Humberview Huskies

Praise goes out to the Humberview senior boys' basketball team, as the Huskies finished first in the North Tier 1 division with an 8-1 record. The team's only regular season loss this year was against Lincoln M. Alexander SS, 57-52 at Humberview Dec. 4.

The season came to a halt with a loss in the ROPSSAA semi-finals to undefeated Edmund Campion SS (8-0). They beat Bramalea SS (4- 5) in the quarter finals.

The team also won three of six tournaments they were in this season, including the Shoot the Rock tournament in Sudbury Nov. 7, the Blue and Gold tournament in Huntsville Dec. 7 and the Emily Carr Secondary School, Tip Off the New Year tournament in Vaughan Jan. 8.

The five senior Huskies' in the starting lineup are graduating this year. They are Ben Dance, Brandon May, Jon Hilliard, Andy Quinones and Patrick Dadzie.

The Husks also had a wrestler participate at OFSAA Wrestling championships at the Haldimand County Caledonia Centre Feb. 28- 29.

Laura Mills, Grade 12, placed eighth in her 57.5-kg weight class division during her second OFSAA trip in her high school career. She has won three gold medals and one silver at other tournaments this season.

Robert F. Hall Wolfpack

The Hall varsity girls tier 2-hockey team (4-1) lost a close matchup to St. Francis Xavier SS (8-0), 2-0 in the ROPSSAA Tier 2 finals last Thursday at Iceland in Mississauga.

Goaltender Chrystina Palmieri, Grade 11, was a key component for the Wolfpack, as St. FX only managed to score during the first two minutes of the first and the last two minutes of the third to become champions.

"Since it was our first year in the league we were placed in the Tier 2 division, but hopefully our play this season can advance us into Tier 1, which would give us a shot to play at OFSAA if we won that next year," said Palmieri.

"Overall it was an evenly matched contest, but plain and simple: We just couldn't score," said Wolfpack defenceman Julia Craparotta, Grade 10.
