Innuendo, accusations, illicit affairs, questionable ethics, human foibles and hidden agendas. Newspapers are filled with these subjects every day and readers are hard-pressed to know where fact and fiction part ways.
It's confusing and frustrating to say the least, but never fear. The citizens of Caledon are fortunate indeed, for there are seven clubs in town which absolutely know the difference between fact and fiction, where everyone is welcome and the only intrigue can be found between the covers!
Have you guessed yet? Caledon Public Library Book Clubs.
The library is proud to offer a variety of book clubs, including eight adult, one young adult and one juvenile club throughout Caledon. No matter that you may live in a distant corner of town - there's a club for you! From Belfountain in the northwest to Albion - Bolton in the southeast and all points in between, book clubs have taken root in all library branches.
At a time when the cries of "I'm so busy" and "I'm so stressed" are heard every day, everywhere, the evergrowing numbers of book clubs are a welcomed oasis in a world run amok with deadlines and schedules. They serve as a fun respite for busy people who enjoy reading and discussing what they've read.
Sharing ideas is key to a successful book club. People should feel free to disagree and to voice their opinions in a respectful, if animated, manner. Sharing ideas and different books you like is why many people enjoy book clubs. Book clubs should encourage you to read things that you wouldn't normally pick up to read; books, perhaps, that are a little outside your comfort zone.
Book club sets are purchased by The Friends of Caledon Public Library and include such award-winning titles as A Good House by Bonnie Burnard, Brick Lane by Monica Ali and Saturday by Ian McEwan. Members borrow a copy of a preselected book each month, then return it for another title the following month. It's a wonderful service and much appreciated by all participants.
Another aspect of book clubs that can't be underestimated is the sense of community they provide. It's an opportunity to meet new friends and to participate in interesting and lively conversation. The book clubs at Caledon Public Library are waiting for you.
