Peel students celebrate art of dance at Peel Dance Showcase More than 350 Peel students in grades 4 to 12, including representatives from Palgrave Public School and Mayfield Secondary School, will perform at the fourth annual Peel Dance Showcase March 20. It will be at the Living Arts Centre at 4141 Living Arts Dr. in Mississauga. The event is intended to celebrate the art of dance and showcases the talents of Peel students, while raising funds for the Peel Dance Teachers' Association (PDTA) Dance Scholarship. "This event brings together students and teachers from across the board who share a passion for dance," commented Mary Ann Fratia, instructional coordinator for the arts, health and physical education for the Peel board. "It provides an opportunity to explore dance as an art form and as a powerful tool for selfexpression and communication." Many different genres and styles of dance will be featured, including hip hop, jazz, African dance, Southeast Asian dance and many other cultural dances. "Involvement in the Peel Dance Showcase has more than doubled since 2005. Its success has much to do with the dedicated efforts of dance teachers who spend many hours preparing students for the showcase," Fratia commented. "This is the first year that we are holding the event at the Living Arts Centre. We're extremely grateful to them for donating the space for this community arts event." The Peel Dance Showcase is sponsored by the Peel board and PDTA. The performance begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. Tickets for the event are $10 and can be purchased as of March 15 through all participating schools and from the Living Arts Centre box office. |
