Fund-raising event to benefit Hospice Bethell House

A hardworking committee of local volunteers have planned an exciting afternoon to help raise funds for the new palliative care centre that will be built in Caledon.

It will be April 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Caledon Country Club at 2121 Olde Base Line Rd. The event will be A Spring Affair, a fashion show featuring the beautiful and casual collections of Outback and Co., of Caledon. Refreshments will be provided and guests will be treated to musical talents of local jazz artist Marcia Barnes.

Tickets are $30 and all proceeds will be directed to support Hospice Caledon's Bethell House.

Hospice Caledon (www.hospicecaledon.ca) has been providing thousands of clients and their families with compassionate end-of-life care and bereavement support for the past 15 years, and they have embarked on an ambitious project to build Bethell House, a beautiful 10- bed residential-style palliative care center in Inglewood to provide even greater care to the community.

"Our goal in building Bethell House is to deliver the highest level of palliative care that will honour a person's right to dignity and respect; help relieve pain and suffering; and support a peaceful death in a home-like setting free from physical and emotional stress," reported David and Shelley Peterson, honourary chairs of the Building a Home of Comfort and Care Campaign.

The project is well on its way to becoming a reality, thanks to the generous donation of Lorna Bethell, made in loving memory of her husband, Tony and son Jamie, in whose honour the facility is named, along with support from the Town of Caledon and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

But more help is needed and an afternoon of fun and fashion has been planned by community volunteers to help this worthwhile project.
