Step through Yuschuk's passages at the Art Gallery of Peel

Mississauga-based artist Anna Yuschuk's Passages exhibition debuts March 9 and will be showcased from March 5 until April 13 at the Art Gallery of Peel.

Using a palette knife and oil paints, Yuschuk creates soft changes in colour in her abstract paintings.

Since moving to Canada in the early '90s from her native Ukraine, Yuschuk has lived in Peel for the past five years and was named the 2006 Established Visual Artist of the Year by the Mississauga Arts Council. She has developed a strong reputation in the Greater Toronto Area for her evocative light infused paintings.

"Many of the paintings in the Passages exhibition are based on the physical space of the Art Gallery of Peel and the Heritage Complex," commented Assistant Curator Judy Daley. "Anna has interpreted the building's corridors and entryways in order to explore the qualities of empty and transitional spaces. In her recent paintings, she expands the concept to abstraction with subtle layers of colour."

The opening for Yuschuk's Passages collection will take place between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Peel Heritage Complex (PHC).

PHC is operated by the Region of Peel and is located at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. The Complex is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; weekends from noon to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission fees are $2.50 for adults; $1.50 for seniors; $1 for students; and $7 for families.

The PHC is made up of the Region of Peel Museum, the Art Gallery of Peel and the Region of Peel Archives. Together they collect, preserve and display a variety of materials related to Peel's heritage.
