SHORT STORY CONTEST WINNER
Caledon Public Library announced in December the winners of the Elizabeth Scavetta Memorial short story contest for young adults. The winners were (first) Nicki Kwon, (second) Mark Jones and (third) Brendan Reid. The judges this year were Don Collins, Allyson Henley and Leigh Forster. All the judges were impressed with the caliber of the writing and encourage all of the writers to continue their efforts. "The stories were very good, some exceptional and all worthy of this contest," Collins said. Heather Scavetta, mother of Elizabeth Scavetta for whom the contest is now named, gave each of the young writer's a copy of some of Elizabeth's writing. As well, the Scavettas added to the prize money from the Elizabeth Scavetta Memorial Foundation. The winning entries, as well as information about Elizabeth Scavetta, are available on-line at the teen page on the Library's Web site.
