Peewee Lightning start playoffs with pair of winning efforts

The playoffs have begun for the BYHA Intra City peewee division.

The Caledon Lightning started off in fine style, achieving a double win this weekend.

Saturday

Facing the Caledon Black Hawks Saturday at home in Inglewood, the Lightning won 3-2.

It was an interesting game, with the usual rivalry between the two Caledon teams. Tyler Tiessen, however, brought home a magnificent hat trick, shooting all three goals for Caledon. Just four minutes into the game, the Hawks scored their two goals. In the second period, Tiessen shot two of his spectacular goals, both from the blue line. The second goal was assisted by Michael Sheridan. The game became rougher with several penalties.

In the final period, the Lightning stepped it up, with many shots on net. Forwards and wingmen continually took the puck to the net. With three minutes to go, Tiessen had a breakaway, assisted by Christian Brugger and Patrick Bourne, thus Caledon achieved the final score of 3-2.

Sunday

Sunday, the Caledon Lightning faced the Brampton Rockets at the Powerade Centre.

A fast-paced first period closed at 2-2. Caledon goals were scored by Bourne and Luke McAree, assisted by Sheridan and Bourne respectively. Both were also assisted by Christian Brugger.

All of the ice was in play with action at both goals. In the second, Hayden Gorman scored, assisted by Kristian Balinov and just four seconds before the end of the second period, Tiessen shot an unassisted goal, bringing the score to 4-2.

This hard-hitting game continued, and both teams fought well to the end. The Rockets brought the score to 4-3 with another goal, then pulled their goalie for a power play. Caledon's Balinov hit the puck from just beyond the Caledon blue line, into the open net. The closing score was 5-3 for Caledon.
