RIDE spot check leads to man being charged with possession

Traffic

Caledon OPP officers responded to 27 property damage and five personal injury collisions during the eight-day period, ending Monday.

Two drivers were charged under the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act for going more than 50 km-h faster than the posted speed limit.

Break and enter

Over the weekend during night hours, a lock was broken from a front gate of an Airport Road business near Caledon East. A shed was entered on the property and two masonry saws and a welder were stolen.

A home under construction on Porterfield Road was entered during the night of Feb. 13. All of the appliances and two TVs were reported stolen.

During the night of Feb. 15, a garage was entered through an open door. Vehicles in the garage were entered and a purse and wallet were stolen.

Drugs

Caledon OPP reports one of their Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot checks at The Grange Side Road near Heart Lake Road Feb. 15 resulted in an arrest. A 26-year-old-man from Orangeville has been charged with possession of a controlled substance - marijuana.

Mischief

Two unlocked vehicles on Meadowvale Court were entered during the night of Feb. 11. Nothing has been reported stolen.

An attempt to enter a parked pick-up truck occurred during the night of Feb. 12, while it was left parked on Harvest Moon Drive in Bolton. Damage was caused to the driver side lock and two door handles.

A glove box of a vehicle was damaged after it was entered during the night of Feb. 15 while parked on Royal Valley Drive in Mayfield West. Another vehicle parked on Pinebrook Circle in Mayfield West was also entered.

Stolen-recovered vehicles

A pick-up truck that had been reported stolen from Peel Regional Police jurisdiction was recovered abandoned on Kennedy Road south of The Grange Side Road Feb. 16. The ignition had been punched.

During the night of Feb. 17, a snowmobile was stolen from a Kennedy Road property. The snowmobile was taken from in front of the shed where it was parked overnight.

Theft

A vehicle parked at a Pinebrook Circle residence in Mayfield West was entered during the night of Feb. 15. Several tools were reported stolen. Three more vehicles at three separate Pinebrook Circle residences were also entered. Items stolen include CD's, IPOD, a rear view mirror and a handicapped permit.

Parts from a tow truck were reported stolen from a business on Airport Road in Caledon Feb. 15. The theft is believed to have occurred around 5 p.m. in the evening.

An IPOD has been reported stolen from a vehicle parked at a Community Centre in Caledon East Feb. 16.

Other criminal incidents

A Feb. 13 traffic stop on Highway 10 near King Road resulted in a criminal charge for the 37-year-old driver from Shelburne, who was charged with failing to supply a breath sample.

A Feb. 13 vehicle stop on Charleston Side Road near Willoughby Road resulted in criminal charges for both the driver and one passenger. The driver, an 18-year-old from Brampton, has been charged with obstructing police, personation with intent, three counts of breach of recognizance and three counts of failure to comply with sentence or disposition. He was held for a bail hearing the following day. His 18-year-old passenger from Mississauga was charged with obstructing police.

A 23 year old male, wanted by Caledon OPP, was located Feb. 14. The Caledon man was arrested in Mount Forest, charged with two counts of assault, forcible confinement, uttering threats and breach of probation, as well as one count of overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence.

Police urge the public to secure their vehicles overnight, lock their doors or park in a locked garage.
