March Break Camp I Can offers Peel students fun ways to learn, explore

Can students have a great time during March Break - and improve their reading, writing and technology skills at the same time?

Yes, they can at March Break Camp I Can, offered by the Peel District School Board from March 10 to 12.

Camp I Can is a new three-day literacy and technology camp run by Peel teachers for students in Grades 7 and 8. Students attending the camp will explore their interests, skills and abilities through the use of computer technology, physical activities and problem solving games.

"March Break Camp I Can is an exciting way for students to continue enhancing their literacy skills through technology," commented Chris Vanellis, teacher and camp program manager. "Students will be provided with the three days worth of tasks on the first day so that they understand the final goal. Each student will complete a personal web page or slide show, using the templates and activity sheets posted on-line. Instructors will assist students, when necessary, as they independently create slide presentations and familiarize themselves with the bells and whistles that technology has to offer."

Camp I Can is open to students who may or may not have attended Counting on You, the Peel board's afterschool remedial literacy and numeracy program.

Registration forms are available at all Peel board schools and must be returned to school principals or teachers by March 7.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The location of camp sites will be determined by student registrations and will be indicated in confirmation letters sent to each student. A $10 registration fee includes daily snacks. Bussing will not be provided for this program.
