Mono Road WI has been busy The Mono Road Women's Institute has been active during the fall and early winter with the September meeting being held at the home of Dominica Wheeler. A letter received from Mayor Morrison, thanking the group for a donation to the community, was much appreciated. In conjunction with the program on fashion, very ably presented by Mary Greco, each of the members were asked to wear a hat and recite the story behind her article. Mary hosted the October meeting and everyone was delighted to see Margaret Lindsey in attendance after a long absence. Margaret brought a meal from Meals on Wheels to display for the group's interest. Bertha Robinson announced that Mono Road will be hosting and providing lunch for the annual district meeting, to be held in May. Raffle tickets were sold for prizes, donated by Glen Echo Nurseries, Rock Garden Farms and Awesome Blossom. Thank you to these local businesses for their participation in our fund-raising. The meeting was concluded with the sale of perennial plant cuttings from members' gardens. The November meeting was held at the home of Thelma Cannon. Following a lovely pot-luck lunch, roll call was answered by donations of new toys to be given to Caledon Community Services for the Santa Fund. The program was on nutrition and a great deal of effort was put forth by Marilyn Kolking in preparation. Unfortunately Marilyn was unable to attend so Bertha Robinson presented Marilyn's information which was very informative and well received. On Dec. 13, everyone headed to Dawn Smith's home with their part of a Christmas dinner. Met by the aroma of roasting turkey and lovely decorations, a bountiful feast and animated conversation was thoroughly enjoyed around the dining room table. It was decided during the business meeting that the group would take part in the Support of Soldiers Program. Members will donate items such as candy, magazines and playing cards to fill a box to be sent to our troops in Afghanistan. The meeting was concluded with the exchange of gifts, Christmas music, dancing and laughter. The next meeting will be held Feb. 14. Guests and new members are welcome.
