Concert series to present piano recital The next concert in the Caledon Chamber Concerts series will be Feb. 9, and will feature pianist Ron Greidanus. He will present a recital that will include etudes, preludes and concerti by Chopin, Bach, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. The concert takes place at St. James Church, Caledon East and will start at 8 p.m. Admission is $30 for adults and $15 for students 18 and under. Seating is limited and the concert is expected to sell out, so anyone planning to attend should reserve in advance by contacting Gordon Morton at (905) 880-2445 or by email at gordon.morton@sympatico.ca Greidanus was raised on a dairy farm in southern Ontario and demonstrated a keen interest in music from an early age. When he was 11, his parents were persuaded by family and friends to purchase a piano, enabling him to begin formal piano lessons. In four years he completed nine grades of piano and had added such challenging works as Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto to his repertoire. He studied first at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and then went on to post-graduate studies at Sweelink Conservatory in Amsterdam. Greidanus has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Vancouver Philharmonic and the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra. Last September Ron performed Hummel's Piano Concerto, Opus 85 with the K-W Chamber Orchestra. This piece, which was highly thought of by Chopin, is rarely heard in concert as it is considered "impossible" to play. |
