Council gives $300 for film

To help showcase a documentary film about a local farm at Empire Theatres in Bolton, Caledon council recently agreed to cover the administrative costs.

Council will take $300 from the proceeds of the 2007 Council Charity Golf Tournament and give it to Mark Magro, chief executive officer of Wanted Media Inc., for his documentary about Cedar Mains Farm.

Magro told council he's an independent filmmaker here to promote his film. The film explores the history of Cedar Mains, he said.

In an earlier written submission to the Town, Magro explained the film, entitled Cedar Mains Farm: A Forgotten Landscape, documents an abandoned parcel of land in Caledon which is filled with interesting buildings and natural features. Among them are an overgrown cemetery and dilapidated church, and various modern barn complexes around the church and graveyard which create a very odd architectural landscape.

The land is currently owned by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

"This overlooked corner of land tells the story of what our nation and communities were built upon," Magro wrote. "Preserving this piece of Canadian history will remind people that every place does have a fascinating story behind it."

Magro told Councillor Nick deBoer the film has already been completed.

DeBoer noted Cedar Mains Farm is in his ward.

"We like to look at the cultural aspects of Caledon," deBoer said.
