Extensive fire damage to Alton area home
Caledon Fire and Emergency Services report they were called out at about 10:33 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found a large threestorey wooden clad house with an attached garage, and the garage was fully involved. Additional equipment and personnel was requested and an offensive fire attack was started. A large tanker shuttle was also used. The fire spread through the attic and dropped into the second floor of the home. Interior fire conditions eventually became dangerous, and crews had to withdraw from the interior and mount a defensive fire attack from outside. When the fire was contained sufficiently, crews re-entered the home to complete a search and put out the rest of the fire. Crews worked into the late afternoon. The Town of Erin provided two tankers and one rescue-pumper to provide emergency coverage to the north-west quadrant of Caledon for the duration of the fire. Caledon OPP reports two adults were home at the time of the fire and were able to get out of the house without injury. The home has suffered extensive damage, however police said it was not deemed suspicious. The fire department estimated damage at $400,000. In addition to Alton, crews from the Caledon East, Caledon Village, Mono Mills, Inglewood, Erin and Hillsburgh fire stations were involved, as well as Peel EMS, Hydro One and the Office of the Fire Marshal, which is investigating. |
