Two youths charged after vehicle flees from police

Two young men from Brampton were charged after fleeing from Caledon OPP on a chase Monday evening.

Police report an officer spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Brampton earlier in the day at about 8:35 p.m. Two males were in the car, which was heading south on Heart Lake Road.

As the officer attempted to get in behind the vehicle, it was seen failing to stop at a red light, making a right turn onto Mayfield Road. The officer activated his emergency lights in an effort to pass two other vehicles that were between his cruiser and the stolen vehicle, at which time the stolen vehicle fled at high speed. It was observed again failing to stop for a red light as it passed Kennedy Road. Due to heavy traffic and concerns for public safety the officer did not follow the vehicle.

As other officers arrived in the area, the vehicle was located parked on the grass off of Mayfield Road, west of Kennedy Road with the driver side door open. Officers located the two males, a short distance away at a service station on Mayfield Road and Highway 10. A 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, both from Brampton were arrested.

The 17-year-old was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and failure to comply with sentence or disposition. The 16-year-old has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, six counts of failing to comply with sentence or disposition, five counts of failing to comply with recognizance and failing to comply with an undertaking before a justice.

Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to contact Constable A. Houser (905) 584-2241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
