Santa came through in a big way

Yes Madeline, there really is a Santa Claus

A sweet, kind, generous woman in her 80s struggles through each day with health and disability challenges. In spite of her challenges, she is a good soul who greets each person she meets with a smile and a warm hello. Madeline lives very frugally on her limited monthly income. She has a positive attitude and is always thinking of others. Somehow she manages to bake biscuits, pies and prepare jars of jam and marmalade which she generously showers on the people in her life.

Madeline struggles to get from a sitting position to a standing one. She had dreamed about purchasing one of those motorized reclining chairs that provide a boost when getting oneself upright. Unfortunately the cost of such a chair was prohibitive with her limited economic means.

An elderly gentleman passed away and his son was cleaning out his home and belongings. There was furniture being sold. Word spread quickly through our Caledon Senior's community and it came to my attention that among the items being sold was a motorized reclining chair. I made an appointment to view the chair and inquire about the cost. The chair was in perfect condition, almost new, and the asking price was very reasonable. Madeline wrote out a cheque and the transaction was complete.

My husband and I went to pick up the chair to deliver it to Madeline's home. After loading the chair in the van, the gentleman gave me back Madeline's cheque and said, "Tell Madeline, Merry Christmas."

When we delivered the chair and the cheque to Madeline, she was so excited and appreciative. She grinned from ear to ear as she tested her new chair.

Isn't it wonderful that we have such kind, caring and generous people in Caledon? This altruistic gesture certainly restored my faith in humanity. I couldn't think of a kinder soul than Madeline to the be recipient of this kindly deed.

So you see Madeline, although he may not have had a white beard and a red suit, there really is a Santa Claus.
