Two killed in Monday night crash in Caledon Caledon OPP are still investigating Monday's fatal threevehicle accident which claimed two lives on Dixie Road. They report the mishap occurred at about 7:15 p.m. between Mayfield Road and Old School Road. Police said an Acura was traveling northbound on Dixie and a Ford Thunderbird was heading south. The two vehicles collided and the impact sent the Acura into the east side ditch and caused the Thunderbird to roll onto its roof. A northbound GMC Sierra pick-up truck then struck the Thunderbird, which was then engulfed by fire. Two occupants of the Thunderbird died in the crash. Police released their names late Wednesday afternoon. They are identified as John Ryan, 21, of Caledon and the passenger was Katherine Rauti, 22, of Tottenham. The driver of the Acura, a thirty-eight year old man from Caledon and the driver of the pick-up, a 50 year old man also from Caledon were both taken to Brampton Civic Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Firefighters from Caledon East were at the scene, working with Peel EMS staff to provide patient care to those injured and worked for approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the vehicle fires. They were on scene until approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday, assisting the coroner and OPP. The Caledon Fire Department reported that due to the nature and severity of the incident, the firefighters involved in this emergency participated in a critical incident debriefing conducted by peer professionals prior to being dismissed for the evening. The investigation is continuing and anyone with further information is asked to contact the investigating officer, Constable Williams or Constable Duclos at the Caledon OPP Bolton office at (905) 857-3304. |
