Youth charged attempted murder of officer

Four young men face a number of charges after a series of incidents Dec. 29, including an attempt to runover a Caledon OPP officer.

Police report they responded to a robbery at a service station on Highway 50, just north of Columbia Way in Bolton at about 8:30 p.m. They said the attendant was apparently robbed by four males who subsequently assaulted him when he resisted, before fleeing in a dark-coloured Honda. The attendant received minor injuries.

At about 8:40 p.m. an officer on patrol in the area of Mayfield Road and Humber Station Road observed a dark coloured Honda traveling north. There was an attempt to stop the car, but the suspect vehicle rammed two OPP cruisers and drove directly at an officer who had exited his cruiser. The suspects then fled, traveling east on Healey Road at which time the driver evidently lost control of the vehicle and rolled into the snowy ditch.

All four occupants were arrested at the scene. One was taken to hospital with minor injuries and released into police custody later that night.

The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old male from Toronto, has been charged with attempted murder of an OPP officer, impaired driving, driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system, fleeing from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, robbery and possession of property obtained by crime.

Two of the other occupants of the vehicle, males from Toronto aged 17 and 18, were charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime and noncompliance with a probation order. The other man, an 18- year-old from Toronto, was charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of property obtained by crime.

Any one with information regarding the initial robbery or the involved individuals are requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Steve Cole at Caledon OPP at (519) 927- 3041.
