A final look at 2007 - Part 2 The Town and the Dufferin - Peel Catholic District School Board agreed that an information meeting should be held to update the public on the new St. Michael High School, planned for the north hill of Bolton. * * * * * * * The Town decided to proceed with the paving of Horseshoe Hill Road, between Olde Base Line Road and Charlestown Sideroad, despite the objections of one local resident, who wanted things left as they were. Council went along with a staff recommendation to pave because that's what most of the residents of the road said they wanted. * * * * * * * Caledon resident Signe McMichael, wife of the late Robert McMichael and cofounder of the McMichael Canadian Collection in Kleinberg died in July at 86. * * * * * * * Peel Region delivered on the promise to residents in the vicinity of the Peel Curing Facility. Regional officials started the process of removing composting materials at the King Street facility, and a detailed information package was hand-delivered to the area residents. Residents in the area had been bothered by a foul stench coming from the site and at the public meeting held in late June, the region made the commitment to residents that they would actively investigate other sites that the composting materials could be moved to. A number of initiatives remained ongoing in the Region's quest to resolve the issues with the facility, including the securement of outside consultants to work with staff to review the composting system and identify process and procedure improvements that would eliminate off site odour. Councillor Allan Thompson said the stench from the facility had been a contentious issue in the community since the odour problems arose and that it remained a top priority for him and regional staff to resolve the problems for his residents. * * * * * * * A petition signed by 39 Caledon East homeowners was submitted to Town council requesting a sidewalk be constructed along Airport Road from Leamster Trail to Walker Road. One of the residents, Peter McDonald, told council walking on the shoulder of Airport Road was dangerous. He believed there was a lot of space for a sidewalk. Peel Region reported in early July there had no human cases of West Nile Virus reported yet in the year. Regional officials were reporting pretty much the same late in the month too. With the help of the provincially appointed supervisor, the Dufferin- Peel Catholic District School Board's budget for 2007-08 was passed with a deficit of $1.7 million. * * * * * * * The terms of reference for the Caledon agricultural advisory committee were adopted by Town council. They outlined the goal, principles, activities and general organization and administration of CAAC. |
