Cavalier Gray novice AA Hawks travel to Flamborough The Caledon Cavalier Gray Rock novice AA Hawks traveled to Carlisle Community Centre recently to take a 7-1 victory from the Flamborough Sabres. The Hawks previously defeated the Sabres by a score of 8- 0. The win had moved the Hawks a point ahead of the Brampton Battalion into fourth place in the Tri- County Bowen Division standings. The Hawks started strong against the Sabres. Less than three minutes into the game, centre Tyler Giancos provided a nice pass to right winger Masson Sarris, who slid the puck into the open side of the net. Left winger David Mastropaolo was the next to score, firing the puck into the top of the net over the goaltender's glove hand. Luca Mazzo assisted. The Sabres received some great goaltending and played a strong game, cutting the lead in half at the 6:53 mark of the second period. This prompted Hawks Head Coach Barry Wilson to speak to his players. The result was an important goal for the team. The next line got the puck deep into the Sabres zone. They cycled the puck behind the Sabres' net and Sarris passed to left winger Jake Buth, who found centre Nicolas Saville waiting at the front of the net. He fired the puck home for a 3- 1 lead. The remainder of the second period went scoreless, but early in the third Mastropaolo scored again, also a high shot to the glove side, with an assist to right winger Keaton Wilson. A Hawks' penalty sent the Sabres to the power play, but Saville found right winger Mathew Impey streaking through the centre ice area. Impey went in alone and fired a shot for a 5- 1 lead. The short-handed goal was the fourth of the year for the Hawks. Defenceman Tyler Halls, with a shot from the point, from Wilson and Mastropaolo, and Captain Giancos from Sarris and Jake Ledson finished the scoring for a 7- 1 Hawks victory. Previously, the Hawks had hosted the Flamborough Sabres at Mayfield Arena. They had already lost twice during the week, dropping a 4-3 decision at home against The Georgetown Raiders and 2-1 to the Brampton Battalion at Greenbriar Recreation Centre in Bramalea. The Hawks planned on establishing their quick transition game early against the Sabres, using their skating and passing skills. They had also been struggling on the power play. For the opening goal of the game Mastropaolo made a nice pass from the corner to Mazzo who directed the puck into the net at 2:05. Nineteen seconds later a nice individual effort, by Saville, off a Sabre turnover, made the score 2-0. Wilson opened a three-goal gap at 5:28, planting the puck in the back of the net with assists to Nicholas Palumbo and Liam Rebellato. Before the end of the period, the two Jake's, Jake Buth and Jake Ledson moved the puck to Saville who scored for what was now a 4- 0 Hawks lead. Ledson wore Number 10 for the first time and played an outstanding game. A late first period Sabre holding penalty resulted in the first power play goal of the game. Early in the second frame Saville completed his hat trick, converting a nice set-up by Ledson who had been fed the puck by defenceman Ryan Radisa. With the game now firmly in the Hawks' favor, another Sabre penalty, this time for tripping, resulted in Wilson's second of the night. Rebellato again was the helper. Sarris, who had been stymied a number of times by the Sabre goaltender, scored the Hawks' final two goals, the last one on the power play. Buth assisted on the first and Saville on the second. |
