SIU investigates shooting in Bolton

The Province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is continuing its investigation into the shooting Sunday of a 41- year-old Bolton man.

SIU reports caledon OPP was sent to a plaza on Queen Street at about 2:30 p.m. regarding a man who was acting erratically. The man ran away from them, but officers took after him and eventually caught up with him in the area of Leonard and Pearl Streets. During the ensuing interaction, one of the OPP officers fired his pistol. The man sustained one gunshot wound and was taken to hospital. SIU said his injuries were not life-threatening.

One man, who asked not to be identified, said he didn't actually see the shooting, but did see the aftermath from his home. He also had praise for the way police handled the situation.

"At no time did I see the police being rough or belligerent with the gentleman," he commented, adding officers were offering him blankets and seemed to be trying to make him comfortable.

SIU has assigned five field investigators and two forensic identification technicians to look into this incident. As of press time, one OPP officer has been designated a subject officer and three have been designated witness officers.

They are also asking any witnesses to the incident to contact them at (416) 622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529.
