Inspector Andy Karski presented him with a citation from OPP Commissioner Gwen Boniface. Patterson had moved on to corporate communications at headquarters in Orillia.

Town council approved Peel Region's position that the new 2-1-1 community information service be delivered by the Region, starting in December.

The Zehrs Super Cities WALK for MS went ahead as planned in Caledon and the local effort raised more than $81,000.

* * * * * * *

Caledon councillors unanimously approved an Official Plan amendment to facilitate the Bethell House hospice residence in Inglewood.

Councillor Richard Paterak cited the contribution of Lorna Bethell for her work on the project and her donation of $2 million to bring it along.

"I hope this will be for all of us in Caledon," she told council "I hope this will be a sad but happy home."

"All of this is coming together very nicely," Mayor Marolyn Morrison commented.

The Bolton branch of the Royal Canadian Legion presented a donation of $6,000 to Headwaters Health Care Centre.

The money was slated to go toward the purchase of a pain pump, which provides intravenous pain control for patients.

* * * * * * * Dufferin - Caledon Liberals named well-known Bolton environmentalist Skid Crease as their candidate in the next federal election.

"I want to go to Ottawa to ensure that Canada's national and internationals responses to climate change honour the work of the scientific community and our commitments to the Kyoto process to provide responsible policies that will work toward a healthy environment and sustainable development," he stated. "I want to rekindle a vision of a united Canada, celebrating diversity and sharing our resources with empathy and integrity."

The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters and its partners in conservation released 9,915 Atlantic salmon into the Credit River at Terra Cotta. The species had disappeared from Lake Ontario many years before.

The Town of Caledon released its first Environmental Action Report, and it received the endorsement of council just in time for Earth Day.

The report highlighted the Town's green history, associated carbon dioxide reductions, significant municipal reductions, and relevant memberships.

"Our carbon dioxide reductions are particularly important, since the Town has endorsed corporate and community greenhouse gas reduction targets through its Partners for Climate Protection membership," commented Sara Peckford, environmental progress officer. "Cumulatively, the Town's methods to reduce carbon dioxide have resulted in approximately 1,400 tonnes - this is equivalent to taking about 250 passenger cars off the road for one year."

* * * * * * * The Town held a ceremony April 27 to recognize the Day of Mourning, held to honour those in Canada who have died, been injured or suffered illness due to the workplace.

"The Town maintains a proactive approach towards safety - our procedures, policies and standards heighten employee awareness and responsibility throughout the corporation," Mayor Morrison stated.

Dufferin - Caledon MP David Tilson submitted a motion in Parliament, asking for a comprehensive study and report to the House of Commons on the growing criminal problem of identity theft.

John Gilbert was named the Town's and the Caledon Environmental Advisory Committee's Environ-mentalist of the Year.

Local resident and CFRB Senior Correspondent Taylor Parnaby received the Volunteer Champion Award.

* * * * * * * Town staff were told to start a study to find the most appropriate spot for a supermarket to serve the north hill of Bolton.

* * * * * * *

Mono Mills youth Nicholas Zimmerman, 15, a student at Orangeville District Secondary School, travelled to France for ceremonies marking the 90th anniversary of the Battle for Vimy Ridge.

As well, 44 students from Mayfield Secondary School made the trip to help commemorate the anniversary.

Macville Public School Principal Michael Logue received the Award of Distinction from the Peel District School Board.

He was recognized for his unique and exemplary contributions to public education in Peel and to the Peel community.

In their nomination letter, Macville staff wrote that Logue had demonstrated true excellence working with pupils, staff and parents on a daily basis, and in his ability to instinctively know what to do in all situations, in the way he does everything with a positive, constructive energy.
