MP Tilson demands answers from Senate

Dufferin - Caledon MP David Tilson blasted the Liberal-dominated Senate last week for stalling the passage of Bill C-2 (Tackling Violent Crimes Bill).

"Canadians are fed up with a justice system that puts the rights of criminals ahead of the rights of lawabiding citizens," Tilson was quoted as saying in the House of Commons. "When will the Liberals stop sitting on their hands and support Bill C-2?"

The Conservative government's Tackling Violent Crimes Bill includes legislation to raise the age of protection from 14 to 16, imposes mandatory jail times for serious gun crimes, toughens bail rules for gun-related crimes and cracks down on drugimpaired driving.

Passage of the bill has been delayed in the Liberaldominated Senate since November.
