By Alan Liczyk Staff Reporter

The Town of Caledon's United Way committee surpassed its fund-raising goal of $10,000 by raising $11,501 in its 14-day campaign. Shelley White (centre), chief executive officer with the United Way of Peel Region, accepts the cheque from Town staff and Caledon council.
The Town of Caledon United Way committee's 2007 fund-raising campaign was a tremendous success with $11,501 collected.

Committee member Pat Bradley told Caledon council recently this surpassed their goal of $10,000.

"At that time we knew we had a steep hill to climb," she said.

She gave credit to an "amazing campaign team."

She also extended thanks to Mayor Marolyn Morrison and treasurer Sam Jones for giving them the green light, and to council members and Caledon OPP Inspector Andy Karski who auctioned themselves off. Each staff member was also thanked.

"Our contributions have made a difference," Bradley said.

She presented a video showing highlights of the campaign held over 14 working days.

Lesley Allison, resource development manager with the United Way of Peel Region, told council this is what the United Way is all about. She added Caledon is one of her favourite campaigns.

"As I was watching the video I saw the faces of many heroes," said Shelley White, chief executive officer of the United Way of Peel Region. "Thank you for an outstanding campaign."

"The enthusiasm was really catching," said Councillor Doug Beffort.

He added Bradley deserves recognition for her role in the campaign.

Councillor Annette Groves also gave a "big thank you" to Bradley and all of staff.

"Superseding our goal is very nice," Groves said.

She also thanked the United Way for its excellent work.

Councillor Richard Paterak noted six agencies benefit from the United Way.

Councillor Jason Payne also thanked Bradley for "leading the charge."

He added the United Way needs people's help 365 days a year.
