Volunteer for Hospice Caledon

If you are a compassionate, emotionally centered individual who enjoys other people, you may be interested in becoming a visiting volunteer for families who are dealing with life-limiting illnesses or are grieving a loss.

Hospice Caledon is offering their 30-hour "inhome visiting volunteer" training program for individuals who would like to support families during times of grief and/or bereavement. This program introduces participants to many end-of-life issues like palliative care, communication with the dying and bereaved and their families, spirituality, grief and bereavement, medical considerations for specific illnesses, pain management, ethics and family dynamics.

The training will be offered at Hospice Caledon in the Caledon Community Services office and will run from 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (Jan. 26 and 27, and Feb. 2 and 3). Space is limited to 12 participants.

Hospice welcomes all volunteer candidates, but is especially in need of volunteers who speak Italian, as well as males and residents of the west side of Caledon. This course is offered free of charge with a $25 materials fee.

If you are interested or want more information, call Anne at Hospice Caledon at (905) 951-3534.
