Good and bad news reported from recent IngleWoodstock festival There was good and bad news to report to Caledon council recently from the first-ever IngleWoodstock held Aug. 24-25. The musical festival was held to raise money for the Bethell House hospice to be built in Inglewood. Roger Crathern, president of the Village of Inglewood Association and chair of the IngleWoodstock fund-raising committee, told council the event was really a great success He said more than 1,000 people attended Friday, but they didn't do so well Saturday because of rain. "The Friday night went off spectacular," he said. Crathern thanked Town staff for their help. "It was a learning experience for both parties," he said. "In the long haul, we were both learning." He added they now have the facts and figures on how many they can fit in the park. They may do it again. He noted the youth enjoyed the event very much. Crathern explained they budgeted $50,000 in ticket sales, but the actual income was slightly more than $21,000 due to Saturday's downpour. Their net income was $7,565.40 before Town fees. If the Town fees of between $8,000 and $9,000 are imposed then the event runs into a negative position, he said. Council had already waived $2,500 in fees prior to the event taking place. "It's a shame the weather wasn't good Saturday," said Councillor Richard Paterak. He noted Crathern and his wife Nell put in tireless hours as did others in organizing this event. "Like you say, there are lessons to be learned," Paterak told Crathern. Councillor Doug Beffort also thanked the Cratherns for their efforts in organizing IngleWoodstock, noting they had a lot of hoops to jump through. "I can't remember a bad word being said by those young people," he said. He added council hopes to put forward a larger amount of dollars for events like this. Mayor Marolyn Morrison observed it was packed Friday night, but it was a shame they got hit by rain for the Saturday show. "Congratulations," she said. "Great job." |
