Liberal throne speech fails to deliver for Dufferin-Caledon

Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones expressed her disappointment at the failure of last week's Liberal Throne Speech to address any of the issues that are important to the people of Dufferin-Caledon.

"There are a number of pressing issues that dominated the recent provincial election that failed to get a mention in the Throne Speech," she said. "None of our local priorities were addressed by the Liberals."

Specifically, the Throne Speech is silent on:

Fair Share funding for health and social services in the growth communities of the GTA/905 and Dufferin.

Immediate (2008-2010) investment in transportation infrastructure to make a meaningful decrease in commute times.

Support for the infrastructure needs of municipalities, such as Waste Water Treatment capacity in Shelburne.

Support for our agricultural community, which is struggling to cope with falling commodity prices.

No specific plan to help our manufacturing sector, which is struggling to adapt to the new strength of the Canadian dollar.

"Dalton McGuinty needs to get serious about the issues that are important to Dufferin-Caledon," added Jones. "After four years of playing the blame game, it's time that Dalton McGuinty started listening to hard-working Ontarians and put a concrete action plan in place."
