Wheeler works hard for the hat trick for minor bantam AEs It looked like it was going to be a close game Oct. 20 between the Caledon Hawks minor bantam AE team and the Waterloo Timberwolves, but, by the end of the first period it was obvious who was going to be victorious - the Hawks! The Caledon team ignited with only 23 seconds remaining in the first period. Nick Wheeler scored the first goal with the lone assist going to Tyler Begley. It was just past the 11- minute mark in the second period when Caledon somehow lost a man to the box and then another. They were then down by two for 48 seconds. Jacob VanVliet, Lucas Guadagnini and Daniel Kozluk did some excellent penalty killing to keep their team out of hot water. At 7:46 Wheeler got hold of the puck, passed it over to Scott Foley who passed it over to Jonathan Dunn and at that point it didn't take long for the puck to enter the net. Thirty seconds after the referee dropped the puck at centre, Michael Bozzo launched one into the air, passed the goalie and into the net. The helpers on that one were Tyler Goertzen and Scott Foley. It was a busy night in the penalty box, but even shorthanded the Hawks scored yet again. Michael Bozzo (unassisted) got a deuce for the night. With a minute and a half to go Michael Newman slid the puck onto the stick of Wheeler who got his lucky number two for the night. Period three saw even more on ice action as Nick Wheeler was on a mission - to get that all important hat trick - and he did just that! The assists for the Hawks final goal of the game went to Newman and Guadagnini. The Timberwolves did however manage to sneak in a goal of their own to end the game with a score of 6-1. The coaches awarded Michael Newman, player of the game and Nick Wheeler, the hardest worker. The next night the Hawks headed out to Hespeler in hopes of another win. Tyler Goertzen nabbed the first goal of the night, assisted by Bozzo and Foley. The second goal of the night happened in the second period and that point was awarded to Guadagnini, with the assist this time going out to Dunn. The third goal of the night happened in the third period and this time around, Bozzo got the credit. The only assist went to Foley which gave him a double assist for the game. It was a one, two, three goal night for Caledon. Hawks' goalie Peter Coghill got his second shutout of the season - truly amazing! The coaches awarded Michael Bozzo, player of the game and Leo Labine was the hardest worker. |
