Peel Selects at cup tournaments

The Peel Selects had a strong showing at recent provincial cup tournaments.

The Peel Selects 17 and under team (17U) played in the 17U and 18U Provincial Cup Tournaments Nov. 3 and 10.

Twelve regional club teams participated in each of the two tournaments. The Selects won four out of five matches and nine out of 11 games in the 17U tournament, and then three out of five matches and eight out of 13 games in the 18U tournament.

All 10 of the players on the team showed tremendous athletic ability along with an array of very impressive volleyball skills.

The team is definitely looking like a national contender at this time, and will likely increase in strength during the course of the season.

Team members include Amy Yorke and Michaela Reesor of Caledon, Devon Jones of Rockwood, Kelyn Montano and Jenn Sheldrake of Brampton, Sarah Hogeboom and Giulia Degiorgio of Etobicoke, and Caroline Cooper, Inna Malkamalova and Joanna Peplak of Mississauga, as well as assistant coach Tim Croft and head coach Alan Muliyil.

The team will be representing the Region of Peel and the surrounding area at the Canadian Nationals in May, and probably in the East Coast Championships in the United States.

The Peel Selects Volleyball Club is a girls' volleyball club that represents the Region of Peel and the surrounding area. The club has several teams in every age group from 12 and under to 18 and under, and is made up of elite athletes who are training to play volleyball at the highest levels. Many players from the Peel Selects have earned full athletic scholarships and have gone on to play on national or professional teams.
