Speed limit reductions approved by council Abig reduction was made to a speed limit on a Bolton road by Caledon council recently. The speed limit for Mount Hope Road from Columbia Way to the southerly limit of Mount Hope Road will be cut in half to 40 kilometres per hour from 80 km-h. Public works and engineering staff had recommended lowering the Mount Hope Road speed limit to 50 km-h, but Councillor Jason Payne requested it be lowered to 40 km-h because there were a lot of kids playing in that area. Staff noted Mount Hope Road was an unposted 80 km-h zone which was considered inappropriate for a local residential class road. The original speed limit wasn't reduced when the surrounding residential subdivisions were developed. Council also reduced the speed limit on Walker Road West in Caledon East to 40 km-h from 60 km-h between Mountainview Road and 670 metres west of Airport Road. Craig Campbell, director of public works and engineering, told council that half of Walker Road was already bylawed to 40 km-h. Council also implemented parking restrictions on both sides of Mount Hope Road to a point 223 metres south of Guardhouse Drive and the north side of Walker Road West from Airport Road to Mountainview Road. |
