Caledon has high quality of life, residents say

A recent survey of residents conducted by the Town of Caledon confirms that Caledon residents experience a rewarding quality of life, supported by the provision of high quality and effective municipal services.

"The survey results are extremely positive - it means that we are meeting the needs of our community. The data sets the stage to ensure that Council and staff continue to do so," said Mayor Marolyn Morrison.

Ipsos Reid conducted the survey on behalf of the Town of Caledon from September 12-25. The survey involved a total of 601 telephone interviews among a randomly selected, representative sample of Caledon residents aged 18 years and older. The overall survey results have been weighted by ward, age and gender to be representative of the population of Caledon.

The survey results support many of the objectives in the Caledon Community Work Plan. Survey highlights include the following:

- 98% of residents think that the overall quality of life in Caledon is either good or very good.

- 95% of residents were either very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the quality and level of services provided by the Town of Caledon.

- Top issues of concern were urban sprawl, road conditions and traffic.

- 79% of residents feel they get good value for their tax dollars.

- 46% prefer increasing taxes over cutting services (37%) if required, however, 75% would prefer the introduction of new or expanded user fees over a property tax increase.

- 34% of residents said their key capital project preferences were infrastructure improvementroads road maintenance and 24% said new or improved recreation facilities.

This is the first time a survey of this kind was conducted by the Town of Caledon. The data will become the baseline for which future survey data will be compared. The overall purpose of conducting the survey was to gather market intelligence as a basis for continuous improvement, to determine requirements and satisfaction levels as they relate to the delivery of existing services to our community.
