Teenager dies in collision

A teenage female passenger died Sunday night when the car she was in left the road and struck a boulder near Alton.

Caledon Fire and Emergency Services personnel responded to the incident at 8:52 p.m. at 20927 Shaw's Creek Road.

When firefighters arrived, they found that a southbound passenger vehicle had apparently crossed the northbound lane, left the road and struck a large boulder.

The male driver, 19-year-old Shawn Manahan of Caledon, was able to free himself. He was treated by Caledon firefighters and Peel EMS and transported to hospital with minor injuries. The female passenger was trapped. Caledon firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to free the entrapped passenger who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Tragically, the collision claimed the life of 17-year-old Desiree Meyer of Brampton.

Caledon OPP and OPP Technical Collision Investigators are continuing their investigation into the cause of this crash. Any witnesses are requested to contact the investigating officer, PC Betty Carney at Caledon OPP, 905-584-2241.

Caledon OPP would like to thank Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services for the assistance their volunteers were able to provide to the families involved in this tragic incident.
