Caledon couple wins $18.5 million jackpot

The largest jackpot prize ever won by anyone in Caledon occurred during the Nov. 10 Lotto 6/49 draw.

Anthony and Antonietta Marrocco of Caledon claimed a winning cheque worth $18.5 million by matching all six numbers in the draw.

Anthony was sleeping on the couch when he was woken up by his wife Antonietta's screams.

" 'We won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot!' she kept screaming while she and our daughter were doing the Happy Dance," Anthony told OLG Prize Centre staff when he and Antonietta claimed their jackpot prize.

An hour before the draw that Saturday night, the Caledon couple won a $13,000 jackpot at Casino Rama in Orillia.

" 'We're going to win the $37-million Lotto 6/49 jackpot tonight!' I told Anthony at the time," Antonietta said. "But when I discovered our win, I was in total disbelief."

Anthony, 61, and Antonietta, 56, own a construction company. They have three sons, one daughter and three grandchildren. With their windfall, they plan to pay off debts, take care of their children and maybe take a holiday.

"We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in December," Antonietta said.

Coincidently, Lotto 6/49 also celebrated its 25th anniversary this past June. The winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was bought at Shoppers Drug Mart on Queensgate Boulevard in Bolton.
